An individual who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepson had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his family member alerted the police about his worries.
She explained the defendant proceeded to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The legal representative said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement once more.
She said the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
