Background: Rising Tensions and Recent Events
The incident occurs against a background of severely escalated strains in the Middle East. Major events preceding this strike involve:

- Nuclear Talks: Recent discussions between the United States and Iran on Tehran's nuclear programme concluded without a deal, with indications of further talks planned.
- Public Statements: Prior to the attack, a prominent American figure had described Iran as “the world’s number one sponsor of terror” and issued warnings regarding its weapons development.
- Ultimatum: Reportedly, a deadline of roughly two weeks had been presented to Iran to resolve the nuclear dispute or confront serious repercussions.
Iranian Response
In response to earlier allegations, Iranian officials had charged the United States of spreading “big lies” about its defensive capabilities. Officials dismissed assertions about missile development and casualty figures as baseless.
